Escape From Winter With Sharm El Sheikh Holidays

By Dean James

When the icy, frigid winter weather seems like it will last forever, Sharm el Sheikh holidays can help plan your escape. The city known by that name occupies the southern tip of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, where desert temperatures help keep the adjacent Red Sea at a comfortable 21 to 28 degrees centigrade all year.

For millenniums, people have fought over this strategic region, primarily due to its location as a major port on the Red Sea. Today, the city has once again been restored to Egyptian control, and now calls itself the Red Sea Riviera. It has become a holiday favorite for many Europeans.

This small city can be roughly divided into several distinct regions. Many visitors find the Old Market area to be an excellent location to shop for that extraordinary souvenir. The nearby neighborhoods of Ras Om El Seed and Hadaba are less than a kilometer away, and are home not only to cafes and shops, but also a water park.

The heart of this city is Naama Bay, where large hotels keep the nightlife buzzing. Street cafes, bazaars, and nightclubs all exist within the same small area, and now include luxurious restaurants. You can dance the night away, or simply relax and enjoy the Bedouin style and ambiance.

By far the most popular attraction, however, is the crystal clear, balmy water just offshore. Not only is it home to spectacular corals and colorful tropical fish, but is also acknowledged to be a world-class opportunity for scuba diving and snorkeling. The reefs are close by, and all diving is beach based.

Other highlights in the region include Ras Mohammed National Park, also home to spectacular deep sea diving. Three other parks provide opportunities for camping, or simply enjoying the harsh but mysteriously beautiful desert scenery. Whatever you choose to see or do, Sharm el Sheikh holidays can provide an itinerary perfect for your style and taste.
