Fashion and design have more in common than many people realize, but it’s items like the Pied-de-Poule shelves that make their connection quite obvious. In the case of this playful project by Julia Quancard, a popular textile pattern has been given new form.
The zigzag shape of each contemporary checker has been maintained, but magnified and extruded into a third dimension. The outline of each dark or light wooden panel extends as a cubby-like enclosure, creating a floating storage compartment with a quirky base. The wall-mounted Pied-de-Poule shelving modules are ideally arranged in alternation between the two shades of the ecological composite lumber boxes, reproducing the recognizable motif that references vintage and sophisticated attire.
