Steps To Making Your Own Halloween Wigs

By Jane Alman

At times, you get so busy that Halloween suddenly creeps up, only to realize you have not made or purchased a costume yet. If this happens, you need not panic. There is a simple way of creating your own Halloween wigs using simple household items. It is often made by several different persons, so enjoy yourself as you create your own costume.

In order to start making one, you need a mop, a sewing kit and a hat. You may purchase these at any local store. When purchasing the mop, ensure you purchase one that has long strands. Get a new mop, if possible. This is to make sure you do not get something dirty and possibly infectious on your head. Also ensure that it has relatively long strands. You do not have to buy an expensive one.

The next step is to remove the head of the mop from its stick. Naturally most mops have sticks that act as handles. In most cases, this is a simple exercise of unscrewing or pulling it out. If there are any sharp staples or nails, remove them.

Most of us have old baseball hats that we have been wanting to dispose for a long time. Well, it is time it came to good use. Fork it out and start sewing the mop onto the top of the hat. A mop is naturally heavy, so if possible use long stitches and strong string when sewing. Al little tugging will help you know if you have fastened it tight enough.

Use a pair of scissors to cut the bill of the hat off. In most cases, the bill is very hard, so you may need to use a large pair of shears. Work diligently and fast, ensuring all bits are carefully cut off. It looks bad to have bits sticking out of a jagged edge.

You can now trim the mop to the shape you want your wig to assume. There are several hair designs, as you must know, so choose one that suits you best. It is also important to make sure you design it in a way that ensures you are able to see.

Let your next season of making Halloween wigs be a family affair. Have the kids around, and have them create different designs. Having fun is a guarantee.
