Stepfather-Daughter and Mother-Daughter Songs

By Susan Todd

Traditionally, there are three main wedding dances at a reception, the first dance with the bride and groom, a father daughter dance with the bride and her father, and a mother son dance with the groom and his mother. But, there are lots of family circumstances where these may not work, or there are more special people in the wedding couple's life.

The question comes up, what do you do if there are step-parents involved? What do you do if there's no father in the picture (for whatever reason)? The answer can be really very simple. You do what is right for you. No one should prod you that you can't dance with your stepfather or stepmother. And an ever increasing trend is to have a Mother Daughter dance (together with mothers walking their daughters down the aisle). Hence, if there are special people in your lives that you want to honor with a special dance, then do it!

The only word of information I can give is if you have two parents you want to dance with, dance with your biological parent first and then with your step parent. But, that decision is all up to you, too. Always remember that this is YOUR wedding.

Now, on to the next query, how does one choose a wedding dance song for these dances? The same lists as the father daughter songs and mother son songs can be used. It is all actually about love and your relationship with the individual. Choose one that is best for you.

And, if you would like to know which sorts of dance you should dance, the same dances that you would want to dance with your biological parents can be used, too. Just make sure that you take some time to practice the dance so that when the important day comes, everything will then go smoothly.
