The Features of a Luxury Holiday

By Joelie Trant

With the term luxury banded about for things as innocuous as washing up liquid, it can sometimes be hard to keep track of exactly what it means. With a holiday, this is even more relevant. It's not only a way to get you excited about your stay, but also give you an idea of what you're getting for your money. A five star stay really should feel like something else, and that means featuring a range of things that make the place you've chosen to holiday in just that little bit more special.

A good area to start with is cuisine. You don't spend more money on a holiday resort or hotel only to find that you're stuck eating the same street fare as you'd expect from a budget holiday. Luxury means getting treats, and there's something pleasantly guiltless about being tempted by sumptuous food when you're already in opulent surroundings. Let yourself go, and dig in to some truly tasty fare: that's what luxury holidays are all about. Similarly you should be able to expect the workers of the location to help you with your every need.

Within the place you're staying, whether it's a resort or a more contained hotel, you should be able to expect a range of great facilities. There's nothing like a bit of pampering to really make you feel like you've come somewhere special. Getting an expert massage, or signing up for a bit of beauty treatment is a brilliantly relaxing way to break up a stay. There should also be sports facilities for people that want to get a little more active during their time away.

The room that you stay in, or indeed the group of rooms, should feel top notch. Luxury means you can expect more from the comfort of this private idyll. Feather-soft beds, air conditioning, and a wide range of electronic entertainment are all standard luxury accommodation features. It's about making a space that's so inviting it feels like home as soon as you walk in: that's the mark of five star.

Whatever your tastes, you should be able to find a luxury holiday experience to suit your view of what luxury is.
