The Best Travel Towel

By John Timmins

On your next trip your must have item is definitely going to be a travel towel. Rather than taking a regular towel which is heavy and takes an age to dry, you can take a travel towel which is lightweight and super fast drying. Travel towels are made out a microfiber material which makes them super absorbant yet still very thin and light. No matter what type of traveler you are, you'll benefit from taking along a travel towel. They certainly aren't just for backpackers.

Travel towels can be used just like a regular towel. They will feel different on the skin, and some people really don't like drying off with a travel towel. But you soon do get used to the feeling. The towel will dry in less than half the time a regular towel will dry. If hung up overnight, it should be dry by the next morning, so you can pack it in your bag without having to worry about it being mouldy.

The size and weight of travel towels are a huge advantage over regular towels. You can pack each one down into a very small package, that will fit into any size bag. Some travel stores sell keyring size travel towels. Although these are a great novelty they won't be that useful while on the road. You can buy travel towels at all good outdoor stores and they come in a variety of different sizes and colors. The perfect size really depends on how big you are (a large man won't want a small towel). You can also pick up a travel towel at the airport.

Another alternative to travel towels is a disposable or dehydrated travel towel. These are designed more for camping or hiking and ca only be used a set number of times before they need to be thrown out. They are ridiculously light and if you value space and weight they could be a good option for you. They do require you to put them in water before they work, so this is one downside.

You don't just have to use a travel towel for drying off, in fact they come in handy for many other travel related things. For example, if you wash your own clothes on the road, you can place each item inside the travel towel after washing, and roll it up into a sausage shape. This will squeeze the water out of the clothes and you will find that the clothes will dry overnight. You could also use it as a beach towel, something to cover a wet seat or even as a picnic blanket.

If you're a backpacker or long term traveller then you will really appreciate having a travel towel. They aren't expensive and they won't add much extra weight to your bag. So why not consider purchasing one for your next adventure
