Machu Picchu Trips Are World Wonder Memories

By Josie Stokes

Machu Picchu trips make for lifetime memories for many of those tourists who go there. This location has become more popular than ever since it was named as a wonder of the world. When one visits this site, it is easy to get a feel for how life was 500 years ago in Peru.

A lot people do not know how large Peru is and don't realize that it can take a fair amount of time to go from one location to the next. It's best, therefore, to plan on a week to get to Machu Picchu, even if you don't plan on trekking. If you are including a trek, a bit more time will be needed.

Most of the time, you'll need a day or two just to arrive at Cusco, from where all trips to Machu Picchu start. Once you get there, you'll need time to get used to the altitude, which is very high. There are lots of things to do in this area as you are acclimating.

You are probably going to be happier if you are not trying to rush while you are in the area surrounding Cusco. This city is a nice place for spending a few days just enjoying it and the various restaurants and museums that can be found there. The countryside around it, particularly in the Sacred Valley, is extremely beautiful also.

To reach Machu Picchu, it's necessary to either trek or to go by train. The shortest trek is usually four days long unless you opt for the short version of the Inca trail which is two. Even when taking the train, it's best to leave two days so that you are able to travel to the nearby town on the first day and then go up to the site on the following one.

If you've got more time for your vacation, this trip can be combined with other ones in Southern Peru. You could add such locations as Arequipa, Lake Titacaca, the Nazca Lines or Colca Canyon, for example. With sufficient time, you could also add in a few days for visiting the jungle.

You can take Machu Picchu trips in as few as seven days or combine the site with others to take up many weeks of vacation. The ancient citadel is the most important place to visit in Peru, especially as a wonder of the world. Besides that, it just depends on how much time you've got and what interests you most.
