By John Roberts

Eating out in Birmingham is an amazing experience as there are so many different places to choose from. Whether you are after a light snack at lunchtime or would prefer a Michelin star 4 course meal to celebrate a special event in your life there are plenty of restaurants in this very cosmopolitan city that will be able to cater to your needs and to your budget.

In Birmingham there is one particular place that is great to head for in order to find some really amazing restaurants at that is Brindley Place. Along with more traditional British food on offer in this part of the city there are also some amazing restaurants serving more exotic Japanese, Cantonese and Spanish food as well. But no visit to this city would of course be complete without enjoying a meal in one of its many wonderful Indian restaurants. However if you have never visited this city before below we take a look at a number of restaurants you may want to consider trying.

1. Bank Birmingham - Situated at 4 Brindley Place this is a very modern bar and brasserie. As well as serving classic British dishes such as rib eye steak with chips and barnaise sauce or Calves livers with sage, onion and crispy bacon it also served some more exotic dishes you may want to consider trying. Why not try their crispy duck breast with Chinese greens dressed in honey and sesame or their chilli squid Thai noodle salad. A 2 course meal starts from 35.00.

2. Lasan - This particular restaurant has been able to bring Indian food into a new age. Such food on offer at this wonderful restaurant which is situated in the centre of the city close to St Paul's Church includes fillet of lemon sole marinated in yoghurt and mint or seared breast of duck served with onion and tomato curry that has been flavoured with roasted coconut, melon and poppy seeds. Certainly you will soon see why this restaurant was awarded the British Curry Award in 2007. A two course meal here will cost you no more than 22.00.

3. Simpsons - This restaurant is one of the most prestigious places for eating out in Birmingham today. However it is situated on Highfield Road, Edgbaston and is only a short journey by taxi from the centre of the city. The main reason we chose this restaurant not only because of its amazing food but is the wonderful setting. The conservatory style restaurant has large windows that allow you to view the kitchen staff as they prepare each meal that is served here. This is without doubt one of the most prestigious restaurants for eating out in Birmingham. A two course meal starts from 45.00 but this is to be expected as it is has been awarded a Michelin star.

4. Thai Edge - When eating out in Birmingham this restaurant like so many others is to be found in the area of the city known as Brindley Place. You can enjoy a wide selection of authentic Thai dishes at this restaurant including the likes of Tom Yum Soup and a salad of glass noodles with minced pork and prawns. Plus of course you may want to try some of their amazing Thai curries instead. A two course meal can cost as little as 30.00 here.
