Getting absolutely free paintball gear is indeed desirable among many paintball players. It would be nice if someone would just hand over a brand spanking new Dye NT to you for free. However, while it would be nice, it isn't very likely.
Not very many businesses or people would give a brand new Geo, or anything for that matter for completely free. It just isn't very likely.
Most ways to get free gear involve you giving up your mailing or email address. These often come in the form of raffles, where a couple winners are drawn from a hat full of addresses and names. There are other ways to get free paintball swag, but right now raffles and drawings are probably the most popular, but only because they are the most known.
Raffles are one of the most widely known ways to get freebies. However, you aren't always guaranteed to win anything at all, which makes them kind of impractical if you want a new marker in a given time period. Your chances of winning a raffle are slim at best, and I, well... I want things to be a little more guaranteed. Don't get me wrong, I've won some raffles back in the day, but I've also lost more than I've won.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you stop even trying raffles, I'm just saying there are better sure alternatives. The best of which involve exchanging your time to take free surveys - of which earn you points. These points can be used towards paintball gear. There happen to be a couple of sites that offer this kind of feature.
The good news is - you most certainly can get free paintball gear. The bad news is it's usually from a raffle, unless you use an incentive driven site like I discussed above. I've won paintball raffles and have received free gear from incentive sites. So believe me, you can get free gear, but most of the time its in exchange for your time, mailing, or email address.
