Outstanding Product - Easy To Use Digital Camera Critique

By Addison Johnson

On the river I took numerous pictures with all the settings to be very disappointed. The quality was so terrible; I double checked all the settings to make sure it was not user error.

So, two days before my trip I returned this camera and bought a Sony TX5. The waterproof housing for the Olympus 6020 that makes it waterproof up to 120ft (for scuba) costs $339.00 while the waterproof housing for the Sony TX5, making it waterproof up to 120ft is $149.00 - and I got 15% off by buying the camera itself.

Therefore I wanted a camera that would take decent pictures for the areas I wasn't comfortable carrying my wife's expensive (and more fragile) Nikon. Here's the pro's: I bought this camera for my husband who was asking me for a durable and easy to use under-water camera. It was extremely frustrating. The settings were also not intuitive. I wanted a camera to take in snorkeling and also one that I was not worried about getting wet if caught out in a rain shower. I have a Canon DSLR, but did not want to spend hundreds more for an underwater housing. Mine got water damage within the first week from being used in a pool, 5ft deep at the deepest point. My girlfriend's camera received water damage within two weeks from being splashed in the surf.

While I haven't exposed it deliberately to any of these yet...I'll update once it's been initiated. I bought this camera for my daughter to take on her vacation. This is a great camera if you get stuck in a monsoon or if there will be danger of splash on a lake. Above water the pictures do not come out well at all.

We did buy a Squaretrade warranty, I'd suggest doing that if you buy one, it's cheap and will protect you for I believe 2 years. We had another Water proof camera but it failed after a year and a half.

Since I got the Stylus Tough 6020, I have already crashed while tree skiing, launching it into the snow. It survived the impact with a tree and landing in the slushy wet snow and kept recording the whole time. I tried referring to the owner's manual, and well there wasn't one. I had high hopes for the camera with four small children I need a tough camera but was disappointed in the product and had to return it. He broke his brand new camera during a sand storm, so he needed one that would not only survive that, but also himself (he's not so great with keeping cameras alive). I've been playing around with it and so far it seems to be a great camera.

I sent the camera back to Amazon with explanation and they gave me a refund no questions asked. The battery compartment was closed so I don't know if this was a defect or fluke.

Sincerely, I love it...got it and the next day took it white water rafting, it was dropped, hit, smashed, dunked...and nothing stopped it from working, taking great pictures and videos and still looking brand new. My friends went out to get one of their own! I followed the guide given with the camera to help maintain and check for the waterproof feature and water got behind the screen and inside the lens.
