Senegal: what you have to know before traveling

Location

Senegal is a country located in western Africa, with borders with Mauritania, Mali, Guinea and Guinea Bissau. It is crossed by Gambia on the west of the country.

Senegal is washed by the Atlantic Sea. The country has an area of ?? 196,722 km2 and gained its complete independence on April 4, 1960. The government system is a Republic and it's one of the most stable countries in this continent.

Towns and regions



Dakar is the capital of Senegal and the territory is split up into 14 territories.

The region located more to the southeast its called Kedougou, and it's on the border with Mali and Guinea, this region was established in 2008, until then belonged to the region of Tambacounda. Now, a new region has been created between the regions of Kolda and Cassamance which is named Sediou.

Population

The population of of Senegal are 13,800,000 inhabitants, much more populated in the western part of the territory. Some engaging data are:



- The population aged 0 to 14 years is 42% of the total, 15 to 64 is 54.8% and over 65 3%.
- The average age is 18.6 years with a rate of growth of 2.70%.
- The birth rate is 36.84 births per 1000 inhabitants and the rate of mortality is 9.75 deaths per 1000 inhabitants.
- Life expectancy when born is 59 years.
- The fertility rate is 4.95 children born per lady.
- The infant mortality rate is 58.94 deaths per 1000 live births.

Language

The officially recognised language od is French, although it is spoken by a little p.c. of the populace, other languages ? are the Wolof, Pulaar, Jola, Mandinka. So, you'll have no problems. Come and enjoy!
