By Brian Clegg

As the world struggles with a debt crisis, people are trying many ways to save money and one way may be by taking Great British breaks. Britain is a small, compact country and its networks of roads, rail and airports mean that any major tourist destination is never more than a few hours away.

One particular type of break that is currently very popular is the city break. This often involves a short stay of only a night or two, together with a small schedule of activities. Activities can include a trip to the theatre, museum or city tour.

A break particularly popular with families involves a trip to one of the several coastal resorts around Britain. Many travel firms will offer a package deal which usually includes travel, accommodation and meals. Although it is heavily dependent on the weather, the highlands of Scotland plays host to skiing trips every winter.
