Most of the auctions sell a variety of art pieces including paintings, art photographs, sculptures and other types of artwork.

Auctions are as varied as the unique pieces that they have for sale. Some of them will be done entirely online and will show the details of each piece on their site. A bidder will have to sign-up at the website to obtain the rights to bid on pieces. It's likely that they will be asked for personal information such as their name, address, phone number and other personal contact information. They will also be asked to provide a method of payment to help the sale process go smoothly, if in fact they end-up purchasing a piece.

Some of the auctions help over the Internet have web cams and chat rooms so those who are bidding can communicate better. Some other sites might provide a page for each individual item and will provide a way for bidders to make bids on each item over a certain amount of time, such as a day or even a seven day period. It is very likely that each person will be notified by the auction site via email or a text message on their phone, if someone places a higher bid.

Other auctions might require bidders to be there at the event in order to be able to bid and will be given a paddle with a number assignment on it. The auctioneer will show an art piece and will then open it up for bidding and will give a price so that bidders can make a bid by holding their number up. The price of each piece will go up according to the amount of bids that it receives until the last bid is given.

The items that are put up for sale vary greatly from one sale to another. Some might specialize in a certain medium, such as selling only oil paintings or sculptures. Others might sell only certain styles of art such as only modern pieces or only the work of French masters, while others might sell a variety of pieces at their sales.
