Stick Your Fangs In Vampire Movies

By Adriana Noton

When it comes to vampire movies, it comes as no surprise to anyone that a great variety of people routinely enjoy watching them, whether or not glitter is involved. These movies are considered scary but that genre does not define them well because the creatures themselves, although inhuman, actually present a very human face and can have uncomfortably familiar characteristics and desires.

A lot of people will be surprised to discover that the types of stories that traditionally involve these supernatural characters were first created during the Victorian era. These gothic masterpieces created immortal characters and usually gave them certain very sexual, romantic connotations. In fact, the key feature of this type of a creature was its unnatural lust and attractiveness that even mesmerized their victims.

In fact, it is their sexuality that had made them popular at first, as they were conceived as creatures that respond to the desire of mere mortals, and thusly entrance them. The victims of vampires would, albeit unwillingly, fall in love with them and sometimes carry on long romances that may last for weeks, even months. Such a romance would always end with the death of the human woman in question.

However, it is important to note that the belief in these creatures predates the era when these popular stories were created. In their earliest form, these creatures were simply dead brought back to life, which may sound like another type of a horror franchise. The belief in such reanimated dead who would gain various powers and suck the blood out of the living was widespread in medieval Europe.

Of course, the story of this type of a creature has evolved with the times and now there are many subgenres of the original genre itself. The films starring these monsters are very popular, not in the least due to what someone might call a truly traditional type of a story that has become an overnight success, and a favorite target of derision for many.

Whether or not these creatures are immortal lovers or disenchanted servants of the devil, there is no denying their popularity. Many people who want to enjoy such films may be happy to know that they do not need to make a trip to the dwindling numbers of video rental companies out there. There are online options available.

The number one reason why this is true is the unstoppable march of technology. People can now access many websites which will have, for free or for a fee, the ability to stream or download a variety of films. This is especially true of the older films which have by now entered the realm of public domain.

For the aficionado of such films, no matter how discerning a purveyor of vampire movies he or she might be, there is a variety of options today, starting from historic films in black and white to the newest, shiniest entries in this lengthy lore.
