Salou Hotels: Soak Up the Sun in Spain

By Claire Collins

Along with its fine, sandy beaches one of the main attractions of the Costa Dorada is its fascinating history. One of the key spots on the history trail is Tarragona - classed as the most important Roman location outside of Rome. Tarragona's Roman Amphitheatre, overlooking the sea, was the site for many gory gladiator battles. Carved out of rock in the 2nd Century AD, it can hold up to 14,000 spectators.

Another great place to base yourself in the Costa Dorada is in the pretty town of Salou. Here you'll be within easy reach of many of the area's top historic sights, as well as the best beaches. You can book Salou hotels right on the waterfront to make the most of the coastal location, and you'll also be near plenty of great local restaurants, all within a short beach walk away.

If you like your holidays more wild and carefree, then you will almost certainly enjoy a holiday break in Mallorca. Here the nightlife is rocking, although the best of the party atmosphere can be found in the resort of Magalluf. Here big name DJs from all over the world come to spin the decks, and get happy holiday revellers shaking their thing on the dancefloor. This is a popular place to go though, so if you want to join in the fun and frolics, book your Magalluf hotels well in advance.

Madrid remains a popular destination for cultural breaks. The Plaza de Toros de las Ventas in Madrid, is Spain's largest bullring and a standout landmark of Spanish culture. The city's Prado Museum is one of the largest museums in the world and houses works from artists such as Francisco Goya, the legendary Spanish romantic painter.

If you're booking your Madrid hotels in the city centre, be sure to stop in the Plaza Mayor square. This 17th century plaza is very picturesque and is home to several terrace bars. Sit back with a cocktail or a beer, and watch the rest of the world go by. This is a great way to spend your Spanish holiday!
