Young leaves Villa for Premier League champions

By Ben Williams

Talented winger Ashley Young has finally made the decision to switch from Aston Villa to domestic champions Manchester United after putting his signature on a contract worth around 17 million pounds for his former club. With Young signing a deal that will keep him at his new club until he's 30 years of age, the player should be able to give the Red Devils the benefit of the best years of his footballing career.

Anyone who follows the sport news will know that months of speculation and transfer rumour preceded the move, with Young admirably choosing to remain loyal to Aston Villa for a few years after he came to the public imagination following a few stunning performances on the wing that came after his big money move from Watford. However, with United showing quite clearly just how much they wanted to bring Young to their squad, the player found it difficult to say no to a challenge that will allow him to compete alongside some of the best players in the world.

One individual who knows exactly what the player can bring to his new side is former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd, and he has stated that United will find their new signing to be something of a prize asset, with Young always desperate to improve his exciting game whenever he gets the chance.

For Manchester United, the signing of the youngster offers a further sign that the club are looking to add one or two fresh faces to a squad that, although successful last season in winning the league, were accused time and again of looking lethargic in certain areas of the pitch. Young is the club's second summer signing after Blackburn defender Phil Jones, and the new arrivals aren't set to end there, with Sir Alex Ferguson likely to appoint one or two others before the start of the new league season.

High up on Ferguson's list of potential new signings is David de Gea, Atletico Madrid's talented young shot-stopper, whom many football experts believe could represent an effective replacement for the now retired former United goalkeeper Dutchman Edwin van der Sar. The young goalkeeper is, however, yet to agree anything with Manchester United, so at the moment the club's fans will simply have to feel satisfied with the incoming Young.
