Denver Activities: Something For Everyone

By Mavis Roach

If you find yourself in the Mile High City with no specific plans, you'll have no problem correcting that situation. Colorado's capital is chock full of interesting things to do. The following is a small sample of Denver activities.

No Mile High City breakfast is complete without a Denver omelet. This egg delight, filled with peppers, onions, ham and cheese, will provide an eager sightseer with plenty of energy for a day of exploring. Don't forget your sunglasses, because this is one of the sunniest cities in the U. S., with about 300 sunny days every year.

A stroll down the pedestrian mall on Sixteenth Street leads you right to the Capitol with its golden dome and thirteenth step, which is exactly one mile above sea level. It sits next to the Colorado History Museum, a great place to learn how the state was formed and about the gold miners who helped to form it.

Patrons of the art will not want to miss the Denver Performing Arts Complex. This architectural marvel houses ten separate halls for performances. There is something playing to appeal to everyone in either its opera house, concert hall, ballroom, or one of its seven theatres.

Those who prefer sports to symphonies should check out the Mile High City's professional sports teams. There are eight of them. They include Major League Soccer's Rapids; Major League Lacrosse's Outlaws; National Basketball Association's Nuggets; National Hockey League's Avalanche; Major League Baseball's Rockies; National Football League's Broncos; Arena Football League's Crush; and National Lacrosse League's Mammoth.

For dinner, head to Larimer Square to find cafes and restaurants scattered amongst boutiques, bars and art galleries. This area has a Victorian look with a distinctly modern feel. It also has some of the best sunset views in the downtown area.

The fun in this town doesn't stop after dark. In fact, it just gets better. Practice your arpeggios and then visit the Wild Ivories Dueling Piano Saloon. This dueling piano bar encourages audience participation. The improvisational music and comedy show will have you laughing into the wee hours of the Mile High morning.

The Mile High City is anything but boring. Anyone who has attended its rodeo will put money on that. That money may have been minted at the Denver Mint, which is open to visitors for tours. Bank on the fact that there is almost no end to the number of Denver activities waiting for you to enjoy. Read more about: denver activities
