Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

By Robert Nickel

Punta Cana - much of its popularity comes from its incredible weather and places to visit. Featuring an average temperature year round of about 80F there's no mystery why Punta Cana has become one of the must visit locations in the Dominican Republic.

Seasons there are very similar all year round. In the summer days (May to October) temperatures range from 68F to 90F and include frequent rain falls that in most cases occur during the same time of the day, every day. The cold season (November to April) features more attractive weather patterns, with temperatures ranging from 65F in the morning to 86F at night, each day. With very low humidity, rain fall is not as common this time of year. The weather is cool and enjoyable while at the same time revealing the clear blue skies of Punta Cana.

The calm waters around Punta Cana area are for swimming, especially for young children, and are ideal for water sports as well. All beaches offer a wide range of excursions, water sports, and beach activities such as volleyball, beach, boat tours, paragliding and sailing trips. A variety of snorkeling activities one can engage in, can include a snorkeling excursion with a group out to the Aquarium towards the reef of El Cortecito. Travelers can also take a guided snorkeling tour through the area's warm waters, providing a nice introduction to the colorful marine life of the Caribbean.

If snorkeling or diving aren't really your thing, but you'd still like to enjoy the water, you can always go for a slow and relaxing sail from Punta Cana across the crystalline waters that line the stunning white coast of the Bavaro and make a detour around the wreck of Astron, a freighter that lies close to the shore. Along the sail, you can see a cluster of barracuda, blue fishes and yellow tail snapper. You can make arrangements for this outing before you arrive.

The Punta Cana beach offers a wide range of water sports like double-decker party boats, catamaran boat rides, parasailing, dining at sea while watching the sunset, and wonderful glass bottom boats for observing marine life. Boat taxis on the beach can even take you from one resort to another. Other beach activities that a tourist can indulge in are: sailing, banana boating, windsurfing and kayaking. Some resorts also offer golfing, which will, of course, include many spectacular views while you're right out on the green.

Punta Cana exists only to please tourists and travelers; indeed, its economy revolves around its many vacation resorts. When you book a stay at any Punta Cana resorts you're committing yourself to a fantastic time.
