Bollywood Actresses

The versatility and talent of actresses of Hindi film industry could never remain under cover even the film industry was dominated by male actors. Starting from actress Zubeida, who performed in first Hindi film with soundtrack, Alam Ara, many actresses with fine acting skill have given life to many on screen images. Early age of Hindi cinema saw Nargis, Meena Kumari, Nutan, Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman and Mala Sinha, surprising everybody with their acting talent in the movie industry and enjoying a huge fan following.

It was their reputation in the industry that influenced several actresses foray into films. Each decade in Hindi films saw charming actresses like Asha Parekh, Sharmila Tagore, Helen and Mumtaz showing off their acting skill. With intense and captivating performances, Deepti Naval, Jaya Bhaduri, Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil rewrote the definition of acting and were more well known than male leads of those times. From just supporting roles, they started getting strong and main roles in the movie. Parveen Babi and Zeenat Aman effortlessly performed characters of sensuous women and rebelling youth in those times, which was against society's traditions. Soon after actresses became an integral part of films and each films was considered as complete only with them.

In the 1980s and 90s, Hindi film fans were mad about Sridevi, Karisma Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Kajol and Raveena Tandon. Actresses can boast of a lot of well known song numbers to their name, which proves that they are always in demand.

Present generation of actresses also have some immense talent. Among them Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Sonam Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anushka Sharma, Asin, Nandita Das and Priyanka Chopra have done justice to all their roles. Film actresses have also contributed immensely to the film industry and the growth of cinema as an art.

Over the years a lot of actresses have contributed to the growth of Indian cinema and their names are etched out in golden words in the history of Hindi film industry.
