Puerto Vallarta, your Mexican Travel Destination

By Pablo Gonzalez

Puerto Vallarta is a place anybody can enjoy, it's one of the hottest and most visited beach destinations in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta's weather is a sub-tropical climate that's frequently compared with Hawaii's own weather, surrounded with pretty jungles and palm trees, rolling hills add character to the area, warm emerald waters wash clean beige beaches, and to crown it all, Vallarta is recognised internationally for its friendly inhabitants.

Don't take our word for it, these distinctions are accolades from, for instance, Conde Nast Magazine that in 2003 voted Vallarta "the friendliest city in the World", it was also voted "Best Mexican Vacation Destination" by USNews.com in 2010, over Cabo San Lucas and Cancun, the other well-known Mexican beach destinations.

Puerto Vallarta is a very unique destination, despite catering to the global visitor, it has truly kept a Mexican personality. Yes, you've got the ritzy all inclusive hotels and resorts, but you can just as easily stay in humble zero-glitz Mexican hotel in Downtown Vallarta and get a better feel of what Mexico and Vallarta are actually about; you might sail round the bay in a yacht or a booze cruise and drink from the open bar, but you can also zip along the bay in a water taxi to the small beaches and towns like Yelapa, Majahuitas or Quimixto and spend a day feeling like a modern Robinson Crusoe; you can banquet yourself on gourmand delicacies equivalent to any big city bistro (at very reasonable prices), but you can also find the no-nonsense taco stand just round the corner and eat local dishes that've been enjoyed for many years in Mexico.

Yes, the city has changed, sure, it's no longer a sleepy fishermen city, the classic sales slogan in the past, it's clearly no longer a possibility , but the spirit actually is there, the kind and friendly help you receive from the local inhabitants is a testament to the humbler origins of Vallarta and you can sense it all around you, as you walk along the picturesque streets parallel to the main drag in the Romantic section or Downtown Vallarta.

Couples on honeymoons, families looking out for a relaxing stay at the beach, older couples enjoying a less expensive vacation in the off-season, and even members of the LGBT community, all have a space of their own in Puerto Vallarta, all have a great time, all come back for more.
