Creating A Toga Costume For A College Student

By Jessica Page

Toga parties are famous worldwide; not only due to the Romans but also in part to John Belushi and his outrageous character is the movie Animal House. Since the days of college parties, Toga costumes have become almost a rite of passage on the college campuses of many schools across the globe.

Your toga can have a different color other than white. People choose the white color not because they love it but because it's the most common sheet that can be found at home. Thus, if your house doesn't have any sheets of white and you want to your toga to be a little bit stylish, a store for fabrics is there to help you out.

Easy To Follow Steps For A Toga Costume

You have to keep in mind that the usual toga is narrow and long. That is why a lot of sheets are not suitable for a toga for they consist of many fabrics and most of them are not in the good shape. At the end, you wasted a lot of fabric. You also need to consider the kind of shirt that you're going to wear beneath your toga.

The creation of the toga costume itself is the same with or without the tunic but you will want to have the tunic on when you are practicing tying your toga costume or it will be more difficult when preparing for the party later.

Most toga manuals recommend purchasing six yards of cloth for the toga. The length can change based on the person's body size. Naturally, a toga for a kid would need a shorter length for the cloth. One-yard per foot of height to six yards maximum is the suggested range for the fabric.

The Steps On How To Tie A Toga Costume For All Gender

Once you have purchased your fabric and decided about the tunic, you should begin practicing tying the toga costume. For men, the first step is to pin one end of the toga around your waist. Then you will want to wrap it at least one full circle around your waist, having the length hang down to your knees. After wrapping it at least one time around the waist, pin the toga again at the waistline to insure that it remains in position. Throw the rest of the fabric up over one shoulder and you now have your completed toga in place and ready to go.

Toga tying for a female has an additional step but can be done quickly. The initial step is to attach the fabric below her armpits using a pin. The material should reach her knee portion as well. Turn the cloth around her body for one time. A pin should be attached again to ensure the toga's position. The rest of the material should be placed over the shoulder a usual. Have some Internet research for a sexier design of toga costume rather than the ordinary one.
