The cooking process of grilling meats at a relatively low temperature is usually called "barbeque." Often wood or charcoal is used which gives the meat a unique flavor. When many people think of barbeque, they think of the cowboys crossing the plains in America in the 1800s. The concept of the barbeque originally came about because these cowboys only had inferior cuts of meat that needed to cook for hours to get tender. Many people associate barbeque with the Southern part of the United States. Places like Texas, Kentucky, and Tennessee are popular for their barbeque techniques and bbq sauces as well.
We went to Baltimore a day before our cruise to check out the sights and centered our activities near the Inner Harbor. Baltimore's National Aquarium, once considered the top aquarium in America, has lost some of its luster thanks to stiff competition from Atlanta's Georgia Aquarium and the Virginia Aquarium in Virginia Beach. And it's not cheap: Basic tickets (no IMAX or dolphin feedings) were $90 for our family of four. If you do go, don't miss their breathtaking new exhibit, "Jellies Invasion: Oceans out of Balance," which features luminous jellyfish ranging in size from a dime to a dinner plate. It's hard to believe these amazing creatures have no brain, with the exception of the muffin-sized Upside-Down Jelly, which seems stuck in reverse at the bottom of the tank and clearly seems to be a few cards short of a full deck.
My second recommendation is for those of you who love chicken but aren't in the mood for pasta. You definitely need to try the Orange Chicken. Many of you have probably tried the Orange Chicken at Applebee's. If you like the Orange Chicken at Applebee's, you are going to love the Orange Chicken at The Cheesecake Factory Restaurant. This recipe is listed on their specialties menu and includes white rice covered with invigorating Sweet and Sour Orange sauce.
The restaurant doesn't take reservations, so my son and his girlfriend decided to go down and put in his name at 5:45 and told everyone to be there at 6:30. It was a Tuesday, so we didn't honestly think the wait would be even that long. Were we ever wrong! We were finally seated at 8:30. By then we had all decided exactly what we were having-most of our clan had either work or classes to attend early the next morning. It took the wait staff another 10 minutes to take our orders.
Now I get to indulge in a different type of cheesecake every week. With so many different cheesecake factory restaurant recipes available, I am spoiled for choice. I'm no longer limited by what my favorite restaurants offer. I am now able to try cheesecakes from 4-star and 5-star restaurants not within easy driving distance.
Well, my wife doesn't give up that easily. She started hunting and found more variations. Yikes, I can't tell you how many cheesecakes I had during that phase! But then I found out about this cookbook that supposedly had hundreds of "authentic" restaurant recipes. We reluctantly checked it out, and to our amazement it was the real deal. Wow, this was so much easier then finding the magic formulas to the recipes out ourselves!
