About Exciting Destination Hotels And Vacation Ideas

By Adriana Noton

Hotels are commonly seen as convenient, short term rental lodgings located in, or on the way to, an area where travel takes one for some other purpose, whether business or pleasure. In this case the traveler will often spend little time at the facility, and little money, provided the room meets minimal requirements for a clean, quiet place to sleep. Some special accommodations however are the attraction themselves, and are at least partly the reason for the trip to the area. Vacation or holiday travels can be planned around one of these inns and enjoyment of attractions on site, or the nearby natural features.

In this article we will not be discussing budget, limited service, and overnight accommodations, other than to say that they play an important role for travelers needing places to rest on the way to their ultimate destination. While they satisfy that traveler's expectations admirably, they might not be the kind of place to plan a really great travel experience around.

There are several other types that will fit the bill, however. One such type is located in scenic areas, whether on the ocean, in the mountains, near a volcano, in a rain forest, or in a warm desert climate during the winter months. This base of operations is sometimes located in a remote area. It offers relaxation and access to quiet enjoyment of scenery, or activities such as hiking, biking, boating, fishing, hunting, skiing, or climbing.

There is a type with an unusual motif. Caves, tree houses, pyramids, artificial islands, even underwater locations have been made into inns. Often the structure's unique architecture is what attracts the guests. It may have been designed by someone like Frank Lloyd Wright, or have been continually operating since 718. A few are even made to look like the shoe that fairytale old woman lived in with all her children.

Other destinations were once survival bunkers, mines, prisons, airliners, railway terminals, and ocean liners. Some are rebuilt annually of snow and ice, or might feature geothermal outdoor spas surrounded by snow.

A third kind are those facilities featuring a type of on site activity. Here the inn has proprietary assets for the guest's enjoyment. Prime examples are theme parks, golf resorts, conference centers, and resort casinos. They might also have on site or nearby horse races or car races, or sports stadiums.

Yet another possibility are those types offering healthy activities. These might include integrative medical treatment, spas, massage, yoga, healthy meals, fitness training, meditation, stress management, life style modification, or spiritual retreats.

Some potential guests appreciate the cultural institutions found in major urban areas. Theaters, museums, concert halls, shopping malls and boutiques are sought. While many people want to escape the crowds, traffic, noise, and pollution of the city while on holiday, others find the 24 hour a day energy of the city invigorating.

Some destination hotels are known as places for students to blow off some steam over spring break, or for groups like motorcyclists to gather together for a rally with others with the same interests or hobbies. Some attract a variety of different types of people with a common interest such as investment or Star Trek movies and television programs.
