Active Commuting Campaigns - These Sustrans Ads Encourage Sporty Means of Transport (TrendHunter.com)

SuperstarThese Sustrans Ads Encourage Sporty Means of Transport

Taking a car to work or school has become a lazy little habit that many people need not practice. These Sustrans ads encourage the public to carefully consider its transportation options, weighing in exercise and the environment as significant factors in choosing a means of conveyance.

The Bray Leino advertising agency of Bristol, UK, has designed these three prints with an attempt to create a visual and verbal play inspired by street signage in a way that comments on transit decisions. One of the Sustrans ads manipulates a traffic crossing reminder that bicycles should be dismounted, but extends it to welcome the passing of walkers, runners and basketball dribblers as well. Another pictures a bicycle lane along the front path of a residential home, labeled the “fast track to school.”

10 Transport-Focused Social Innovations - From Medicinal Transport Pods to Socially Savvy Decks (TrendHunter.com)

RockstarFrom Medicinal Transport Pods to Socially Savvy Decks

This list of transport-focused social innovations explores a variety of means in which people, often in the Majority World, rely on transportation not simply to make a living, but to survive. It’s easy to take transportation for granted when you have a variety of options. Today, will it be the subway, a bus, a skateboard, a bike, a car or even a plane?

What is more, industrialized countries, even if “plagued” with traffic and long commute times, can for the most part, rely on the safety of their roads in getting them from point A to point B. Poor infrastructure in less-industrialized countries translates to routes that aren’t fit for vehicles, bikes and people.

Many travel miles for water, food and medicine and these transport-focused social innovations use design to create low-cost ways to confront necessary journeys.
